The Challenge (The “WordMess”)
Families Anonymous, a international non-profit, relies on its website as a critical hub for its community and as its primary fundraising tool through literature sales on WooCommerce. Their “WordMess” was severe: the site was extremely slow, had been infected with malware, and was built on an old, outdated theme. For a small, non-technical staff, this was a crisis. The site was not only a liability but also a source of constant stress, and while they knew a full redesign was needed, it was simply not in the budget.
The key challenges we had to untangle were:
- Immediate Security Crisis: An active malware infection and poor security settings put their data and reputation at risk.
- Crippling Performance: The site’s slow speed created a poor user experience, frustrating visitors and potentially harming their literature sales.

The Solution (Our Guided Path)
The client needed a guide who could perform emergency triage and then create a practical, long-term strategy that respected their budget. My approach was phased, focusing on stabilizing the present while building for the future.
- Step 1: Emergency Rescue & Stabilization: The first priority was damage control. I performed a thorough malware removal, hardened the site’s security settings, and migrated them to my Managed Hosting & Care Plan with the necessary server resources to properly support their WooCommerce store. This immediately made the site faster, safer, and more reliable.
- Step 2: Strategic, Incremental Improvements: With the foundation secured, we began making high-impact improvements without the cost of a full redesign.
- Upgrading the Toolkit: I replaced several of their old plugins with modern, feature-rich alternatives from my included premium toolkit, saving them money on licensing fees.
- Streamlining Operations: I developed complex forms for group registration and annual updates, automating a critical administrative task for the staff.
- Enhancing User Experience: We redesigned the homepage and improved the main navigation. I also implemented new taxonomies to create filtered page views for Spanish language resources, making content more accessible for their community.
- Empowering the Staff: I provided targeted WordPress training to help the team confidently manage their own content, making them more self-sufficient.
- Step 3: Planning for Future Growth: To help them prepare for their next chapter, I set up a private development site. Here, they are using a premium LMS (Learning Management System) plugin from my toolkit to begin digitizing their literature. This is the first, low-risk step toward a future redesign and a modern digital offerings model.
